Oslo offers a good mix of modern shopping centres and traditional specialist shops. Oslo’s better buys include glassware, pewter, pottery and wood handicrafts. Credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Diner’s and American Express) are accepted at almost all shops.

Karl Johan Street
This main artery of modern Oslo runs from the Royal Palace past the University, the National Theatre, the Oslo Cathedral and ends at Oslo S – the central railway station. Karl Johan street is for most of its length a broad pedestrian street and Karl Johan and the streets that intersect with it is the focal point of Oslo shopping.

Baerums Verk
65 different shops and handicraft stores are located in an old iron works from 1610 surrounded by pristine forests. You can find everything from applied art and handicraft exhibitions to book stores and an iron works museum.

Bogstad veien
If you have extra time and energy when visiting the Vigeland Park, it is recommended you walk there along the Bogstad veien shopping street – which start at the western side of the Royal Palace Park and goes all the way up to Majorstuen (near the Vigeland Park). For more information see
